We can tell our stories, change perspectives, and unite communities through art. Art allows us to share ideas, thoughts and powerful messages on different causes and issues. Engaging people in critical conversations and dialogues to create change in our communities.
The world is a strange place right now. At times it feels even surreal, immersing us in an environment where a lot of emotions are at play.
The Latin roots of the word emotion are e (out) + movere (move). Emotions create feelings that ebb and flow, however in the hustle and bustle of the busy world we live in these feelings often get dammed up.
It can be a lot to carry these complex feelings which is why art is an incredible way to express and release those emotions. Allowing ourselves to work through feelings and develop healthy ways of coping.
Our Climate Connections Zine is aimed at allowing youth in Ottawa to express themselves and the complex emotions they have about nature, climate change and the environment. The theme of the zine is climate connects. Prompts include but are not limited to:
What is your relationship to nature and the environment? How do you feel about climate change? Do you have climate anxiety? What about nature brings you joy and hope?
So get creative, pick up a pencil, paintbrush or camera and express yourself and submit your completed works to our collaborative Zine!
This project was made possible with funding from @youthactionnow !
We received over 35 applications and were able to accept 20 artworks from Ottawa based artists into the zine! A celebratory picnic and advocacy workshop for the artists and community guests was held in person in May 2023!
